Artist: Amie Antoniak

Amie Antoniak's latest collection of paintings are all based on her long-held fascination with sky and landscapes, some of which have been painted, quite literally, from new perspectives. An earlier collection involved a plane flight for inspiration and resulted in stunning landscapes painted from above the clouds for which Amie won a highly prestigious Royal Acadamy Landscape competition. The current collection described by Amie as 'unfinished business', is taken from the perspective of a recent ballooon trip over Yorkshire.

Amie says she wants to evoke senses of 'freedom, sapce and infinity' and certainly suceeds on dramatic large scale canvasses.

Amie's paintings often echo that of artist Debra Stroud, known for her abstract skies. This is unsurprising when you hear Amie describing the ever-changing sky as 'God's own abstract painting'.

This latest collection can be viewed at the Artfulness Gallery until January 2008.

Amie Antoniak's abstract collage paintings are all about experimentation, both with composition of pattern and with the materials used. Amie creates the collages using handmade paper, various types of paint, ink and bleech. Gold, silver and luminous colours are used effectively in her work.

A lot of her recent paintings have depicted an explosive burst of energy, each one involving a variety of colour and texture. Amie says the purpose of these is to make the viewer feel physically energized and wide awake when looking at these paintings. Ironically the whole process of creating these explosions is actually very relaxing and even meditative. Amie says she gets a great deal of satisfaction out of producing such paintings, mainly through the fantastic effects of all the materials mixed together. They are certianly never a chore to do!
